At CHANPEMA KENNELS we exhibit and bred all three coloured labradors, although we specialise in the Chocolate coloured Labrador Retriever. We started showing in 1995 with our first Labrador CH ELORAC BORIS BROWN (Boris) from ELORAC Kennels. He became the first chocolate Labrador to gain his show title here in South Australia. Since then we have breed our own Labradors under the CHANPEMA prefix since 1998, as well as bringing in other dogs from several kennels to establish our lines. Our kennel name was formed from the first two letters from the family’s name, Peter, Anne, Chevaun and Mathew Smith. We have been able to title several Chanpema Kennel breed dogs, including the first Chocolate Labrador Bitch to gain her show title in S.A. As of 2009 we have titled 15 Labradors, 4 Border Terriers and 2 GWP. Of the 15 Labradors 11 we have bred and 5 of them have been the rarer chocolate colour.
In 2004 Border terriers were introduced to our Kennel. Our first Border Terrier Ralph was bred by Apamura Kennels although he is all Stormvale lines, and since we have purchased two dogs from Stormvale kennels. In early 2006 we titled our first Border Terrier Ch Stormvale Borda Bardot. We must say a special thanks you to Ian and Dee Paterson who have both been a geat support and mentor into the world of Border terriers. They have also allowed Mathew and I (Chevaun) to exhibit and campaign several of their Border Terriers to their titles with many great group and show wins along the way. We have had a lot of fun and success doing this and hope to continue this great friendship for many more years to come!
